Many young adults with disabilities in Delaware do not get offered traditional sex education programs through the school system. Sexuality is a part of human nature, no matter how complex one’s disabilities or medical needs. Clinical professionals encounter young adults and parents daily, who wish they had guidance on how to start the conversations and where to get additional, accurate information.
The Healthy Sexuality Workshops will include two sessions at the same time on each date listed below: 1) Young adult session on healthy sexuality for young adults with disabilities and 2) Parent session for parents/caregivers, focused on how to support healthy sexuality for young adults with disabilities.
All workshops are on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8:30 pm in early 2018.
NEW CASTLE COUNTY — Completed in January/February
KENT COUNTY — Completed in February
SUSSEX COUNTY — March 21, at Nemours duPont Pediatrics Seaford, 49 Fallon Ave, Seaford DE
(Each date will offer the same workshop, so please only register for one.)
Does it cost anything to attend?
No — it’s free! These workshops are funded through a grant from the Delaware Developmental Disabilities Council.
Who will teach these workshops?
Dr. Amy Renwick and Cory Ellen Nourie, MSS, MLSP, from the Nemours AI duPont Hospital for Children will lead the workshops. Together they work with young adults with disabilities and their parents to address transition issues through the Transition PLAN Program at Nemours.
Dr. Renwick will lead the young adult session, while Cory will lead the parent workshop. The information shared with each audience will complement the other.
